It was a special morning—Mother’s Day, to be exact 🎵. Andy stood in the doorway of the bedroom, ready to execute a complicated operation. In one hand, he held his favorite 🎵 red toy race car like a commander’s badge, and with the other, he pointed firmly at the bed 🎵. A serious test awaited him: he had decided that today, he was taking over as Director of House Management.
“Mom, I’m calling a technical break. Protocol change,” he announced in a firm, matter-of-fact tone, stepping into the unknown territory of parenting. “I’m you, and you’re me. Your batteries need charging. You are going to sleep.”
Mom peered at him over her morning coffee. She was clearly surprised by this sudden demand to shut down the system.
“But Andy, the sun just came up. The operating system has barely booted up…”
“Time to cut the power!” the boy ordered, adjusting the pillows 🎵 with the professionalism of an experienced sleep engineer. “Lie down. I’m activating the insulation layer. And no negotiating.”
Mom smiled to herself, set her coffee on the nightstand, and slipped under the covers 🎵. Andy pulled the blanket 🎵 right up to her chin, pleased that the procedure was going smoothly. He turned toward the door, confident of a quick victory.
But before he could even touch the doorknob, he heard a drawn-out voice from the bed. The first endurance test 🎵 had begun.
“Andyyy… I’m reporting a need for liquids.”
Andy stopped in his tracks. He let out a loud sigh 🎵, exactly like his mom had done the night before when he refused to cooperate during teeth-brushing. Accepting the challenge, he marched to the kitchen. He pulled his blue sippy cup from the cabinet—the one with the advanced anti-spill valve. He listened carefully to the stream of cool water hitting 🎵 the plastic bottom until the cup was filled to the very brim. He returned to the bedroom, carrying the drink like a precious laboratory sample 🎵.
