Benny the Bunny could put together a giant fire truck puzzle 🎵 and knew how to match every single piece all by himself. He knew exactly where the ladder fit, where the red doors went, and where to find that last wheel that always hid under the rug. But he had a hard time keeping still when he got too excited, and his little paws sometimes moved faster than his thoughts.

They bounced, they waved, and they wanted to be everywhere at once. His long ears followed them like two cheerful little flags 🎵.

That afternoon, Benny was playing hide-and-seek in the park 🎵. Running among the trees with him were Buster the Hedgehog, Cleo the Cat, and Tilly the Guinea Pig. Papa Bunny sat on a nearby bench. He was reading a newspaper, checking on the children every now and then.

Benny had just found a perfect hiding spot behind a stump. At least, that’s what he thought. He simply forgot about his ears, which stuck up high above the stump and twitched with every muffled giggle 🎵.

Tilly spotted him right away 🎵.

The little bunny jumped out of his hiding spot and was about to run to the next one when he noticed something furry 🎵 under a green bench.

First, he saw a black nose 🎵. Then, a pair of eyes. And finally, a whole little puppy 🎵 pressed tightly against the wooden leg of the bench.

The puppy didn’t have a collar. He was looking around anxiously, as if searching for someone who should have been right there but had suddenly disappeared.

Benny stopped, his mouth wide open.

He had never seen such a furry fellow before! The puppy had messy bangs sticking up over his eyes, and one of his paws looked like it was wearing a white sock.

Benny wanted to squeal, jump, and immediately hug his new friend. He was already imagining them playing together and rolling around in the grass.

He let out a squeak of joy 🎵, hopped up, and reached out his paws.

The puppy backed away under the bench.

Benny moved closer to him. He only wanted to say hello! Why was the furry pup running away?

The little bunny wrinkled his nose.

STOMP!

His back paw hit the ground.

The puppy darted from under the bench toward a wild rose bush 🎵. Benny chased after him.

“Stop, Benny. We don’t chase the puppy. Let’s step back.”

Papa Bunny called out. He was already right there. He stepped into his son’s path, stopping the chase before the little bunny reached the bush.

Only then did Benny notice the puppy’s tucked-in tail. The dog was hiding among the branches, pressed flat against the ground.

Cleo also saw how scared he was. She signaled the others not to get any closer. Buster and Tilly moved back onto the lawn, leaving plenty of empty space around the bush.

Benny’s ears drooped.
