Hello! My name is Felix and I’m a fox. I live in Pine Corner, in a cozy burrow under the roots of an old oak tree. I have a beautiful, fluffy, red tail that I’m VERY proud of. I often brush it and tell everyone: “Look at my magnificent tail!”

But today… today my tail and I had the WORST day ever 🎵!

In the morning, I woke up in a super mood.

“Another wonderful day for a wonderful fox!” I said to the mirror (yes, I have a mirror in my burrow because I like to check if my tail looks perfect).

I looked at my tail. Fluffy? YES! Red? YES! Perfect? OF COURSE!

“Today,” I said solemnly, “I’ll do something amazing! Something everyone will talk about! I’ll show everyone in Pine Corner how agile I am!”

I ran out of my burrow and hurried to Sunny Meadow. All the animals were playing there: Boris the bear, Fiona the squirrel, Henry the hedgehog, Zoe the rabbit, and a few visiting squirrels.

“ATTENTION, ATTENTION!” I called loudly. “It is I, the magnificent Felix, and I’m about to show you the BEST trick in the world 🎵!”

“Ooh, Felix is here!” Fiona called out.

“What will you show us?” Boris asked.

“A SOMERSAULT IN THE AIR!” I announced proudly. “Then a spin! Then another somersault! And finally, I’ll land elegantly and bow!”

All the animals formed a circle around me.

“Wow!” they said.

I felt VERY important. I straightened my tail as high as I could.

“Watch and admire!” I shouted.

I gained speed… one, two, three…

JUMP!

I leaped into the air 🎵! I did a somersault! It was WONDERFUL!

But then…

I saw that I was going to land exactly… by a big… muddy… PUDDLE!

“Oh no!” I cried in mid-air.

Too late!

SPLASH!

I fell right into the puddle 🎵!

Mud flew everywhere! ON MY HEAD! ON MY EARS! ON MY BEAUTIFUL, FLUFFY TAIL!

“AAAA!” I screamed.

And then…

Everyone started laughing 🎵.

“HA HA HA!” laughed Fiona.

“HEE HEE HEE!” giggled Henry.

“HO HO HO!” chuckled Boris.

I sat in the puddle completely dirty. My beautiful tail looked like an old broom. Mud was dripping from my ears. I had a big drop of black goo on my nose.

I felt something very strange.

First, I got hot. Very hot. As if someone had turned on an oven in my belly.

Then I felt my face burning. (Well, normally foxes have red fur, but now I was probably as red AS A TOMATO!)

My ears drooped 🎵. My tail tucked between my legs. I wanted to be tiny-tiny-tiny, so no one could see me.

“This… this…” I stammered quietly.
