Ruby the Racecar: The Great Tractor Race
About This Story
This heartwarming story follows Ruby, a shy little racecar who dreams of adventures while hiding in her garage. When a friendly Monster Truck invites her to join the Great Tractor Race, Ruby must overcome her fears and self-doubt. During the race, she discovers that her small size and agility—traits she once considered weaknesses—are actually strengths that help her navigate obstacles the bigger tractors can't. When Ruby chooses to help a stuck competitor instead of winning, she learns the true value of friendship and teamwork. Children will learn that what makes us different can be our greatest strength, that kindness matters more than winning, and that courage means facing challenges even when we're afraid. The story teaches empathy, self-acceptance, and the importance of helping others.
In Warkotville, mornings always sounded the same 🎵 – a symphony of gentle purrs, steady chugs, and the occasional loud 🎵 “A-choo!” when Ruby’s wheels hit an especially deep pothole in the road 🎵. Ruby was a small, shiny racecar with a cherry-red body. Though she was built to break speed records on smooth tracks, her daily reality consisted of the bumpy streets of the little town, which she navigated with great shyness, dreaming of grand adventures while hiding in her safe garage 🎵.
One Tuesday morning, just as Ruby had wiped her headlights and was trying to timidly drive onto the driveway, the ground shook so hard 🎵 that one of the screws 🎵 on her fender came loose. Around the corner appeared Mr. Bigwheel – a gigantic, orange Monster Truck. He stopped right in front of her doors, blocking all the sunlight and casting a mighty shadow over the little racecar.
“Hey, little one!” roared Mr. Bigwheel, with several cheerful rings of smoke 🎵 shooting from his exhaust pipe. “I’ve heard how your engine purrs around corners. You’ve got that ‘something special.’ You’re exactly who I’ve been looking for to join tomorrow’s Great Tractor Race for the Golden Plow!”
Ruby backed up an inch, her engine nervously choking on fumes 🎵. “Me? But Mr. Bigwheel… I’m not a tractor. I’m just a small racecar who gets hiccups on every bump.”
“We need someone who can show those proud giants that cleverness and agility count too,” replied Mr. Bigwheel.
Ruby didn’t have time to answer because Mr. Bigwheel was already opening his large trunk 🎵. “Don’t worry, little one. We’ll make you look fabulous. Since it’s a tractor race, nobody can notice that you don’t fit in.”
With the help of Ruby’s friends, who immediately sensed an adventure, Mr. Bigwheel got to work. Bluebell, the blue van, delivered old parts 🎵 from the back room, and Leo, the green hatchback, hauled a bucket of the thickest mud from a nearby puddle 🎵. Mr. Bigwheel personally, though with surprising precision, attached fake cutting blades to Ruby’s chassis 🎵 and fixed a small, comical chimney on her roof. When Sunny, the yellow taxi, illuminated the final result 🎵, everyone was speechless. Ruby now looked like an adorable, red garden tractor for mowing lawns!
The time for the race arrived. At the starting line stood nothing but powerful machines 🎵: Ursuses, Zetors, and huge combines with names like “Steel Whisker” and “Crushing Rim.” Among them stood Ruby.
“THREE, TWO, ONE, GO!” roared Mr. Bigwheel, and a cloud of metal shaving confetti shot from his exhaust pipe.
All the tractors started 🎵 with a mighty roar that made the windows in nearby garages shake. Ruby pressed her gas pedal and… immediately fell into the first hole.
“Vrrr-boom-achoo!” her engine sneezed, and she spun around her own axis 🎵 like a top.
“You can do it, Ruby!” shouted Bluebell from the sideline, waving his blue mirrors.
Ruby moved on, though the big tractors were now just colorful spots on the horizon. “Take it easy,” she told herself, “the race has only just begun.”
The route first led uphill – to the famous Gear Hill, so steep that even birds preferred to fly around it. Ruby climbed bravely, but her small wheels slipped on the gravel 🎵. She watched as “Crushing Rim” and “Steel Whisker” conquered the slope without effort.
“I’ll never make it,” she thought, and her engine began to hoot sadly.
Suddenly she heard a familiar voice behind her. It was Leo, who had driven right up to the edge of the track.
“Ruby! Remember how you learned to drive in the mountains?” he called. “Drive zigzag!”
Instead of attacking the hill straight on, Ruby began to climb it diagonally 🎵, first left, then right, like a small, determined ant. It was slower, but… it worked! When she finally stood at the top, she sighed with relief and saw something unexpected – half the tractors were standing still. Their engines had overheated on the steep climb and needed to rest!
Ruby zipped past them 🎵 like a red lightning bolt.
